This Tutorial/Assessment is based around using the browser-based DAW – Bandlab
Bandlab is completely FREE and can help students understand the basic tenets of how to mix and produce a decent sounding production of a multitrack.
With this tutorial, the students will look at mix principles that are applicable to whatever particular DAW they use. The benefit of using Bandlab is that it creates a level playing field on which all the students can be assessed in a fair manner.
All you need to complete this tutorial/assessment is
A laptop or PC
A half decent internet connection Google Chrome browser
A Bandlab account
A pair of headphones or speakers
This being the case, ANY student can participate and allow a teacher to critically assess their students ability.

The tutorials goes through the basics of mixing such as, dynamics, tonal clarity, spacial effect and modulation effects. These principles can be applied to any music production work and are invaluable to developing transferable skills such as working on different DAW’s and music making software.
